Tord Boontje is a Dutch industrial designer known for his intricate and whimsical lighting and home decor designs. He was born in Enschede, Netherlands in 1968 and studied industrial design at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
Boontje gained international recognition for his work after the launch of his "Garland" light shade for Habitat in 2002, which featured a delicate, floral design made from laser-cut metal. Since then, he has collaborated with numerous brands and companies, including Swarovski, Moroso, and Artek.
Boontje's designs often combine traditional craft techniques with modern manufacturing processes, resulting in objects that are both beautiful and functional. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, and he has received several design awards for his innovative creations.
In addition to his design practice, Tord Boontje is also a professor at the Royal College of Art in London, where he teaches product design in the Design Products department.
